The intervention in the existing building, built in the 1930s at the genesis of the modernist period in Portugal, is based on a profound reconversion of the interior compartmentalization and an addition of 3 residential floors and 2 basement parking floors.

The new proposal, to integrate the extension floors into the existing compositional structure, comes from the original project in the historical archives, which envisaged 5 floors of housing (instead of the current 4 floors).

Based on this fact, it is proposed to replace this “lost” floor with the same design as the original project, which will give a greater balance of proportions between the base and the body of the building – as the author of the original project, architect Pardal Monteiro, had foreseen. However, the two upper floors of the extension, despite respecting a logic of formal continuity, are intended to show a more sober and differentiated language. To this end, a new body slightly set back from the façade was created in zinc, which “completes” and balances the original building.
